More than 5,000 people have signed this letter calling for a halt to WestCONnex construction and an independent review of the whole sorry mess.
Statement by Coalition against WestConnex
The Coalition against WestConnex (CAW), a network of community groups opposed to WestConnex, has launched the People’s M4/M5 EIS.
The People’s M4/M5 EIS is a website designed to help people make submissions to NSW Planning, which is currently assessing an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for WestConnex Stage 3, a tunnel between St Peters and Haberfield and Rozelle in Sydney's Inner West. Despite calls for a longer period, the public has been given only 60 days to respond to an EIS of 7000 pages.
WestCONnex Action Group (WAG) has been told by the Minister for the Environment, and the Chair & CEO of the Environment Protection Authority (EPA), that the WestCONnex project is exempt from one of the EPA’s most powerful sanctions for breaches of environmental laws, a stop-work order or Prohibition Notice.
Professor Paul Torzillo, Executive Clinical Director and Head of Respiratory Medicine at Sydney's Royal Prince Alfred (RPA) hospital, spoke out about the extensive physical, mental and social health impacts of WestCONnex at a recent public meeting in Camperdown. But the Berejiklian government has just announced its intention to sell off the company tasked with building it - the Sydney Motorway Corporation (SMC). This was first announced as the sale of a 51% stake in the SMC, but it's now been confirmed that the government is considering selling off the SMC in its entirety.
