MULTIPLE errors made by WestCONnex in the removal of asbestos from a home being demolished in Brown St, St Peters, have potentially exposed dozens of residents and workers to the deadly substance.

RESIDENTS will be holding a protest at the planned WestCONnex St Peters Interchange on Saturday morning to call for a halt to the project, and a full and independent inquiry.

WESTCONNEX Action Group (WAG) has joined the call for a halt to work on WestCONnex following revelations that asbestos-laden material has been used to construct the toll road.

WAG consulted with an environmental scientist with professional experience in the regulation of NSW landfills to prepare this part of our submission and have identified a large number of serious issues with the proposed remediation of the Alexandria Landfill site, the planned construction of the St Peters Interchange on this site, and AECOM’s assessment of it:

Kingsgrove Beverly Hills

The impacts on Kingsgrove and Beverly Hills are of grave concern to WAG. Attacks by the government on the WAG group are designed to hide from the residents of South West Sydney the impacts on their communities. We are concerned, for example, about the residents of Stoney Creek Road who have never been properly consulted or informed about the increase traffic and pollution, they will face as a result of the New M5. Details of information about increased traffic should have been explicitly communicated to them in a range of appropriate community languages. 

PARENTS AND CHILDREN from Kingsgrove and Beverly Hills will hold a snap protest outside McCallums Hill Public School this afternoon to highlight the deadly impact the WestCONnex toll road would have on local families.

You may have seen the story in the Sydney Morning Herald last week about WestCONnex, and the dangerous and possibly illegal work it’s doing to remove asbestos from the planned St Peters Interchange site ahead of the EIS.

WESTCONNEX Action Group (WAG) welcomes the commitment Marrickville Council made at its meeting tonight to seek an immediate stop work order on the Alexandria Landfill site, which the WestCONnex Delivery Authority (WDA) is now preparing for the St Peters Interchange.
