Stop Westconnex campaigners today occupied the NSW Department of Planning and Environment building in Pitt Street, Sydney, calling on the Department to reject the Environmental Impact Statement for Stage 3 of the Westconnex tollway network.

Stage 3 WestCONnex consists of twin tunnels between St Peters and Haberfield and Rozelle, several massive construction sites and a huge three level interchange at Rozelle.

On 28 July 2016, we joined volunteers from other WestCONnex community action groups to meet with Inner West Council (IWC) Administrator Richard Pearson. It became clear that, despite its stated promise to “oppose WestCONnex in the strongest terms”, IWC is focusing on damage control and is not proactively opposing WestCONnex.

RESIDENTS protesting the first meeting of the amalgamated Inner West Council in Petersham tonight forced the meeting to close before it began after refusing to let the unelected Administrator speak.
