WESTCONNEX ACTION GROUP INVITES NEW PREMIER TO MEET COMMUNITIES “PAYING HIGHEST PRICE” FOR WESTCONNEX

MEMBERS of the WestCONnex Action Group (WAG) have invited the new Premier of NSW, Gladys Berejiklian, to meet with them to discuss their call for a halt work on WestConnex and an immediate review into the project.

“Mike Baird’s premiership was defined by his utter failure to listen to communities on WestCONnex, and this played a significant role in his downfall,” said WAG spokesperson Pauline Lockie.

“Under Baird’s Premiership, WestCONnex became synonymous with massive cost blowouts, the heartless destruction of communities and scarce green spaces, and the brutal treatment of hundreds of families forced out of their homes and businesses.

“As the new Premier of NSW, Gladys Berejiklian should unwind Baird’s mistakes by halting WestCONnex before more communities are destroyed, more taxpayer dollars are wasted, and western Sydney families are slugged tolls of up to $25 a day,” said Ms Lockie.

Ms Lockie said WAG had also forwarded a copy of their Open Letter on WestCONnex to Premier Berejiklian, which calls for a halt and a full review into the project.

“We have asked Premier Berejiklian to respond urgently to this Open Letter, and to meet with us in the interest of establishing a genuine dialogue with communities paying the highest price for WestCONnex,” said Ms Lockie.

“If not, it won’t be just Mike Baird whose legacy will be based on a toxic tollway, but Gladys Berejiklian and her government who’ll be remembered as the people who destroyed Sydney.”
