How does WestCONnex affect you? Come to our community forum in Arncliffe on Wednesday 30 March and find out.
If the $16.8 billion WestConnex toll road is built, Arncliffe, Rockdale, Wolli Creek and surrounds will experience:
- Toxic pollution from the unfiltered stacks at Arncliffe and increased traffic. Diesel exhaust is a group one carcinogen, just like asbestos. Vehicle air pollution is known to cause impaired lung and nervous system development in children.
- Years of 24/7 construction, noise, dust and traffic chaos. Arncliffe is the midway tunnelling point for the WestConnex New M5, as well as the site of future tollways such as the Southern Connector. These tunnels would run under hundreds of homes.
- Increased traffic on local roads as drivers ‘rat run’ to avoid tolls. $6 tolls will be charged on the WestConnex New M5 AND the existing M5 East, which even the NSW Government admits will push thousands of extra cars onto surrounding streets.
Come and hear experts in transport planning, health and more talk about how WestConnex impacts you, and why it won’t ease traffic congestion. Confirmed speakers include Dr Michelle Zeibots, transport planner and Research Director at the UTS Institute for Sustainable Futures; Associate Professor Victor Storm, psychiatrist and public health physician; Grant Webster, biological scientist; and Kathryn Calman, lifelong resident of south-west Sydney and president of WestCONnex Action Group.
