MEDIA ALERT: WESTCONNEX: DRIVING SYDNEY TO DESTRUCTION

HUNDREDS of people are expected to attend the WestCONnex Action Group (WAG)’s latest event, WestCONnex: Driving Sydney to Destruction, in Sydney Park on Sunday.

Hosted by much-loved actor and Play School host Benita Collings and singer/actor Inês, the event will feature musical performances, an exhibition by acclaimed photojournalist Lorrie Graham, and talks by Lord Mayor Clover Moore, Dr Mehreen Faruqi, Jonathan Moylan and WAG activists.

“If Premier Mike Baird gets away with WestCONnex, our city will never recover,” said WAG spokesperson Janet Dandy-Ward.

“Sydney’s streets will be choked with traffic and pollution. Countless trees, homes and even endangered species will be destroyed. And families in western Sydney will be sold out to toll road companies.

“We chose Sydney Park as our venue as so much of it will be destroyed if the WestCONnex tollway is built. Hundreds of trees there will be destroyed. Large parts of the park will be razed to create construction compounds. It will be surrounded on all sides by highways – and be left right next to the monstrous St Peters Interchange and its unfiltered pollution stacks.

“This event will give people practical ways to work together to stop Mike Baird’s WestCONnex, and we encourage everyone who’s concerned about the future of our city to join us.”
